Welcome to ID Tech’s digest of identity industry news. Here’s what you need to know about the world of digital identity and biometrics today:
FaceTec Launches Version 10 of 3D Face Verification Software
FaceTec has released version 10 of its 3D Face Verification platform, adding enhanced protection against generative AI attack methods with new Level 5 security and recent independent certification by Praetorian Security. The upgrade improves performance across more than 10,000 supported devices, expands identity document processing with unlimited OCR-enabled scans for over 2,000 templates, and introduces multi-ID handling and ePassport NFC support. Other additions include high-accuracy 3D age estimation and Universal 3D FaceVectors for privacy-preserving biometric storage. The release follows FaceTec’s Level 4 certification, its $600,000 spoof bounty program, and ongoing promotion of its UR Code protocol for decentralized, device-based identity verification.
IDEMIA Expands SMART-E Kiosks with Remote Biometric Enrollment in Pennsylvania and Colorado
IDEMIA Public Security North America has deployed upgraded SMART-E kiosks in Pennsylvania and Colorado, with plans to reach five states by 2025 and at least ten by 2026. The FBI-certified fingerprint scanners have a rejection rate of under two percent and meet NIST 800-63A and 800-63-3a standards. The kiosks allow in-person enrollment with remote agents, high-resolution video monitoring, secure document scanning, fraud detection, and tamper-resistant design. Compact enough for urban and rural locations, they expand access to secure identity proofing services.
Hand Geometry Biometrics Market Set for Double-Digit Growth Across Sectors
Analysts project the global hand geometry biometrics market to grow at annual rates between 11.6 and 16.8 percent, with 2024–2025 valuations estimated between $4.9 billion and $7.5 billion depending on methodology. Growth drivers include advances in sensor technology, better integration options, and stricter security regulations. Adoption is increasing in sectors such as finance, education, and healthcare, while major providers like 3M, Fingerprint Cards, Cross Match Technologies, and Thales develop multimodal solutions. Challenges include competition from other biometric methods and upfront costs for smaller organizations.
India’s Biometrics Market Poised for Double-Digit Growth Through 2030
India’s biometrics market was valued at $5.8 billion in 2021 and is projected to reach $13.42 billion by 2027, a 15 percent CAGR, though other forecasts vary. The government sector leads adoption through Aadhaar-based systems, and Western India holds the largest share. The National Payments Corporation of India is exploring biometric authentication for UPI transactions, potentially replacing PINs. Growth opportunities are also emerging in healthcare, with providers like IDEMIA, SecuGen India, and NEC India offering solutions that incorporate AI, machine learning, and multimodal capabilities.
South Africa Pilots ‘Citizen Super App’ for Digital ID and Public Services
South Africa’s State Information Technology Agency (SITA) has launched a pilot “citizen super app” at GovTech 2025 in Durban to centralize government service delivery with digital ID verification. The app integrates with the Department of Home Affairs and mobile providers for facial recognition and SMS authentication, and allows access to services such as birth certificates, social grants, police clearance, and eMatric. Accessible via desktop and mobile, it is part of SITA’s repositioning as the “central house of digital transformation” for public sector technology.
TokenWorks and ONEPROOF Launch North America’s Largest Commercial mDL Verification Network
TokenWorks and ONEPROOF have rolled out the largest commercial mobile driver’s license verification deployment in North America, installing software on over 15,000 Android devices at more than 7,500 business locations. The ISO/IEC 18013-5 and 18013-7-compliant system enables bars, clubs, liquor stores, vape shops, dispensaries, and casinos to verify mDLs without additional hardware. Company leaders say the rollout demonstrates the scalability of mDL verification and supports growing adoption as more states launch mobile ID programs.
FNF Integrates CLEAR Biometric Verification to Secure Real Estate Closings
Fidelity National Financial has partnered with CLEAR Secure, Inc. to integrate biometric identity verification into its inHere digital closing platform. The initiative targets risks such as seller impersonation and wire fraud through a three-phase strategy: fraud education via the WireSafe program, secure transaction execution in inHere, and biometric enhancement with CLEAR’s CLEAR1 platform. The first phase of the rollout began in July 2025 in select markets, leveraging CLEAR’s network of over 33 million members and 100+ partner locations.
