ID R&D Provides Passive Liveness Detection for Reconnect Tracking System

ID R&D has found another customer for its IDLive Face technology. The passive liveness detection solution will be used to keep tabs on people in the criminal justice system thanks to a new partnership with Reconnect.

Reconnect is a public benefit company that is trying to provide courts, probation officers, and other officials with more modern tracking alternatives. To that end, the company utilizes a mobile app and an ankle monitor that is easier to maintain (and less expensive) than the bulky ankle bracelets that are currently in use.

IDLive Face will be integrated into Reconnect’s mobile app, which allows a person being monitored to check in with a selfie. The app uses facial recognition to verify the identity of the individual. It augments that with liveness detection to confirm that the person is indeed present in the selfie, and is not trying to trick the system with a video or an older photo. Reconnect also uses GPS technology to make sure that person is where they’re supposed to be. 

Reconnect notes that the demand for monitoring technology is likely to increase due to COVID-19, which could lead to the release of some low-risk offenders as public health officials try to reduce the size of prison populations to slow the spread of the pandemic.

“Liveness is a critical part of the Reconnect solution, but it’s not a core competency for us,” said Reconnect Product VP Melih Onvural. “ID R&D’s technology enabled us to improve accuracy and reduce fraud while eliminating the need for active participation by users, resulting in a faster experience and less confusion.”

Reconnect is one of several companies that has adopted IDLive Face in the past few weeks. Zenoo and TECH5 are now using ID R&Ds technology to facilitate biometric authentication.

IDLive Face is compliant with the ISO 30107-3 international standard.
