ID.me has appointed Gary Sun as Chief Marketing Officer of the digital identity wallet company. Sun joins from Coinbase, where he served as Vice President of Marketing for five years and helped scale the platform to more than 100 million users across more than 100 countries.
Before Coinbase, Sun spent nine years at Google in senior roles leading Search and Commerce Ads Marketing, and earlier held marketing responsibilities at eBay. He holds a BSE in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan. In his new role, Sun will oversee ID.me’s overall marketing strategy, expand user adoption across the platform, and promote the company’s “verify once, access anywhere” value proposition.
“Gary’s deep experience in consumer technology and product marketing will be critical in driving further growth,” said Blake Hall, CEO of ID.me. Sun said he is “excited to get started and build on ID.me’s existing momentum to drive widespread utilization of our secure digital wallet.”
The appointment comes as ID.me reports 165 million total users on its network, of which approximately 90 million have been verified to federal AAL2/IAL2 standards, the high-assurance identity levels required for access to government benefits. The company describes its platform as the largest US-based digital identity wallet. ID.me is trusted by 22 federal agencies, 50 state agencies, more than 85 healthcare organizations, and more than 600 consumer brands.
Sun’s hire continues a recent run of executive additions at ID.me. The company appointed a Field CTO for Public Sector in February 2026 to address growing government customer requirements. ID.me also secured a CMS contract to support Medicare.gov sign-in in December 2025, adding to the federal government footprint that now spans 22 agencies. That same month, FINRA mandated ID.me verification for access to sensitive regulatory systems, signaling growth beyond government benefits into financial services compliance.
The CMO appointment follows ID.me’s fundraising in September 2025, when the company raised $340 million at a $2 billion valuation to fund AI fraud defenses and user growth.
