ID.me and Docusign Expand Reusable IAL2 Identity Verification for Agreements

ID.me and Docusign have partnered to integrate ID.me’s digital identity wallet directly into Docusign, letting signers reuse a verified identity credential when completing agreements that require a high level of identity assurance.

The integration is built around reusable identity. A signer who has verified their identity with ID.me can use that existing credential within Docusign rather than completing a fresh verification for each agreement. ID.me says the verification meets NIST Identity Assurance Level 2, or IAL2, a federal standard for confirming that a person is who they claim to be, used for higher-risk and regulated transactions.

The companies position the integration for high-value agreements such as bank account openings, lease signings, and loan completions, where a party needs assurance that the signer is a real, verified individual. ID.me frames the verified credential as a defense against AI-driven fraud, including deepfakes, in remote signing. “AI-driven fraud has become one of the most sophisticated and prolific threats to digital trust,” said Blake Hall, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ID.me.

Docusign described the value as removing steps from the verification process. “Bringing that capability into Docusign means customers can now complete IAL2 verification with a simple sign-in, no extra steps,” said Mangesh Bhandarkar, Group Vice President of Product Management at Docusign. The companies say ID.me has nearly 170 million users, more than 90 million of them verified to federal standards, while Docusign reports more than 1.8 million customers and a user base it puts at around one billion people worldwide. ID.me says a signer who does not already have a credential can create an account and complete verification within minutes.

The partnership builds on Docusign’s existing move into identity assurance. The agreement platform reached NIST IAL2 compliance by integrating identity verification from ID.me and CLEAR, positioning Docusign as an identity orchestrator that lets customers select from integrated verification providers. The new agreement deepens the ID.me integration by placing the reusable ID.me wallet directly in the signing flow.

For signers, the change is that an IAL2-level identity check, previously a separate step tied to a single transaction, becomes a credential that can be carried into Docusign agreements. The integration is available through Docusign.
