Hopae Inc. has launched Hopae Connect – also referred to as hConnect – positioning it as the first EU-registered intermediary under the eIDAS 2.0 framework. The platform is designed to help regulated industries prepare for the European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet mandate, which requires EU Member States to issue government-backed digital identity wallets by the end of 2026.
Compliance and coverage goals
Hopae Connect provides a single API for connecting with Member State–issued wallets and national eID schemes, with compliance to eIDAS 2.0, GDPR, ISO 27001, and SOC 2 standards. Hopae says it is targeting full EU coverage by Q3 2026, enabling direct integration for regulated industries such as banking, airlines, telecoms, healthcare, and gambling. Under the EUDI mandate, these sectors will need to accept EUDI Wallets by 2027 or face significant penalties.
Several EU countries have already begun deploying compatible systems, including Germany’s nationwide digital ID card system and Greece’s unified digital ID infrastructure. These national rollouts form part of a broader EU strategy to modernize identity verification and enable secure cross-border digital services.
Potential use cases
The platform is intended to support practical applications such as cross-border banking—allowing a citizen of one Member State to open an account in another while abroad—and streamlined air travel using a single digital credential. These capabilities align with wider European digital identity modernization efforts, including collaborations between major technology providers and financial institutions to enhance verification services.
Hopae is advancing the process toward full conformity assessment and maintaining its EU registration to meet anticipated demand from organizations aiming for compliance ahead of the 2027 enforcement date.
