Himax Technologies and its subsidiary Liqxtal Technology are showcasing a portfolio of aerospace and defense innovations at the Taipei Aerospace & Defense Technology Exhibition (TADTE) 2025, marking the companies’ first appearance at the event. The demonstrations highlight advances in adaptive optics, drone vision systems, and biometric sensing technologies aimed at simulation, training, and defense applications.
The exhibition features the Liqxtal Dim adaptive optics platform, a liquid crystal light valve paired with ultralow-power AI sensors that automatically adjust light transmittance in response to ambient conditions. The system is presented as suitable for training simulators and other display applications where controlled visibility is essential. Himax is also demonstrating the Pro-Eye panoramic virtual display, designed to replicate the effect of a 260-inch screen in confined environments, offering immersive visualization for aerospace and defense training scenarios.
The companies are unveiling all-weather drone vision systems that combine thermal imaging with AI-driven sensor fusion to improve detection and tracking in varied lighting and weather conditions. While detailed performance metrics have not been disclosed, Himax and Liqxtal position these systems as tools for enhancing situational awareness in unmanned aerial vehicle operations.
Non-contact biometric sensing is another part of the showcase, with the WiseEye PalmVein Module combining palm vein recognition, structured-light 3D imaging, and thermal sensing. Himax describes this solution as part of its exploration of secure, hygienic identity verification methods suitable for defense and aerospace environments. The company has emphasized that these technologies are at the demonstration stage, with certification and deployment pathways yet to be detailed.
“Our debut at TADTE marks an important milestone for Himax and Liqxtal as we extend our adaptive optics and AI sensing expertise into the aerospace and defense sector,” said Jordan Wu, President and CEO of Himax. He noted that the company sees the exhibition as a platform to engage defense and aerospace stakeholders and present its expanding technology portfolio.
The presentations underscore Himax and Liqxtal’s efforts to adapt existing optical and AI capabilities for military and aerospace applications. While the companies are positioning themselves for future opportunities in these markets, the products on display remain in the showcase phase rather than confirmed deployments. Further details on performance standards, certification, and commercialization timelines have not yet been released.
