SLC Digital, a U.S.-based firm specializing in SIM-based identity, has announced the integration of the GSMA’s Device Check service into its eSIM identity platform. This move significantly strengthens device-based security by creating a hardware-rooted trust anchor, allowing organizations to verify not just the user, but also the integrity of the specific device they are using.
The integration aims to combat identity fraud where legitimate user credentials are used on unauthorized, cloned, or rogue devices. SLC’s platform utilizes the embedded SIM (eSIM) as a cryptographic anchor for identity. By adding GSMA Device Check, the platform can now perform a real-time query against the GSMA’s global database, which includes a blocklist of devices reported as lost, stolen, or fraudulent.
When a user or an IoT device attempts to authenticate, the SLC platform can now cross-validate the device’s status. This process delivers a cryptographically signed “device identity” that provides tamper-proof assurance of the device’s integrity, its location, and its authorization status. In practice, this means a mobile network operator or a financial institution can see not only that the correct SIM-based credentials are being used, but also that the specific handset or IoT sensor is not a blacklisted device.
Travis McGregor, CEO of SLC Digital, described the solution as “creating a trusted foundation for secure communication, financial transactions, and digital identity at scale” by combining network data with SLC’s deterministic eSIM attestation.
Tyler Smith, Head of Managed Services at the GSMA, added that this integration “add[s] another layer of trust” by allowing organizations to “know the true status of a device.” He noted that “SLC Digital are showcasing an excellent example of how telecoms can come together with Fintech and Banking to provide additional security for consumers.”
The platform is designed to be interoperable and aligns with FIDO, NIST, and GDPR standards. By embedding verified human identity credentials alongside this hardware-level device check, the solution provides a high-assurance, telecom-grade identity framework intended to secure high-risk sectors like fintech, banking, and digital asset management.
