Biometric software and services provider Aware, Inc. has announced that Georgia’s Thomas County sheriff’s office has installed the AwareABIS Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).
ABIS is designed for use by the civil and law enforcement community, and allows for ten-print, palm print, latent print, and mug shot searches, enabling advanced forensic analysis and reporting, while also allowing for data exchange with other regional and state law enforcement systems.
The addition of the ABIS will help Thomas County agents to identify potential suspects locally, no longer at the mercy of lengthy delays to receive an identity match.
“We are thrilled to have AwareABIS at our disposal,” said John Sellers, Thomas County’s lieutenant of forensics. “Getting a fingerprint match is time sensitive and now we’re able to get results within minutes. Having these fingerprint tools is extremely beneficial in keeping our citizens safe.”
This news comes after a June 2020 announcement that saw Aware team up with Iris ID to integrate the latter’s iris scanning hardware into the ABIS platform, expanding its capabilities.
With a flexible, modular architecture, ABIS is able to provide robust biometric search functionality such as facial or fingerprint analysis and processing when configured for law enforcement applications. For civil applications, AwareABIS is capable of biometric search capabilities through APIs designed for ease of use, from visa applications to border control.
“There has long been a need for a new ABIS product in the market and we are happy to provide one to Thomas County,“ said Robert Mungovan, chief commercial officer at Aware. “With AwareABIS, Thomas County now has a biometric identification system that enables them to best manage and optimize their booking and forensic processes. They are not locked into expensive, long-term contracts and, of course, they benefit from the better control of their data and their workflows that AwareABIS provides.”
Other key AwareABIS features include open integration with existing systems and infrastructures, customer data ownership, comprehensive reporting tools, and the ability to accommodate new biometric modalities.
