London-based gaming security startup PlaySafe ID has raised $1.12 million in pre-seed funding to support the expansion of its platform, which offers verified digital identities for gamers. The platform is designed to prevent cheating, harassment, and predatory behavior in online gaming environments, while maintaining user anonymity.
Privacy-First Identity System for Fair Play
The round was announced on May 23, 2025, and led by Early Game Ventures, with participation from Hartmann Capital and Overwolf. According to company statements, the new capital will fuel rapid growth, hiring, and platform integrations with leading game publishers.
PlaySafe ID’s solution centers on creating anonymized digital IDs that can verify player legitimacy while tracking behavioral violations like cheating or abuse. Rather than storing sensitive information directly, the platform uses zero-knowledge proofs through a UK-based partner, Onfido, to confirm identities without retaining biometric or document data. This enables gaming platforms to enforce accountability without compromising player privacy.
CEO Andrew Wailes described the service as a way to preserve anonymity while promoting trust. The platform allows game developers to flag repeat violators and, if needed, impose bans that can be recognized across multiple games and platforms.
Securing Gaming Spaces in a Shifting Landscape
The funding comes amid mounting challenges in the gaming industry around cybersecurity, moderation, and child safety. Developers and publishers are increasingly seeking external identity solutions to combat coordinated cheating, exploitation, and fraud. Public and private sector investments in digital identity verification have grown substantially in recent years, underscoring the rising urgency of the issue.
PlaySafe ID expects to launch its first platform integrations later in 2025 and aims to reach over 250,000 users in the coming months. Discussions with major gaming companies are ongoing, according to the startup. The long-term vision is to create a secure identity layer that spans multiple games and publishers, helping to establish consistent standards for fair play while supporting creative freedom.
Although PlaySafe ID enters a competitive space that includes startups focused on age verification or parental control, its emphasis on universal trust and secure reputation tracking gives it a broader focus. Investors cited the platform’s potential to serve as a foundational trust layer not only for gaming, but potentially for other digital communities in the future.
