FPC Extends Reach in Access Control Market With ekey Integration

European door access specialist ekey is using Fingerprint Cards technology in a new solution, signaling ongoing success for the latter in its efforts to make inroads in the access control market.

The new solution, dubbed “ekey dLine”, features an FPC sensor to enable biometric access control. While ekey has offered biometric door lock solutions for some time, the new offering is being touted as a smart door system that can be integrated with other smart home devices, enabling functionality such as automatically turning on connected lights when a door is opened.

The ekey dLine solution also allows users to remotely unlock the door via a connected app, with support for push notifications and the ability to trigger a silent alarm.

News of the sensor integration arrives after FPC announced in June that its biometric technology had been integrated into a door lock solution from Kaadas. Before that, Fingerprint Cards revealed in February that Fueb Labs was using its FPC BM-Lite module in a smart home door lock solution of its own.

For ekey’s part, biometric systems manager Raphaela Gallner praised FPC’s technology in a statement announcing the integration. “With the ekey dLine, we are proud to be providing an intelligent access control system that meets the wishes of tomorrow’s customers today, combining high-performing sensors in European quality from Fingerprints with our smart product design,” she said.

While Fingerprint Cards established itself as a leading provider of fingerprint sensors in the mobile biometrics boom over the past decade, the company has recently sought to expand into new application areas for its technology, including access control. In April, the company opened a new office in Zug, Switzerland, that would focus on its payments and access control business activities, and it is perhaps no coincidence that FPC’s latest client is based in neighboring Austria.
