FPC Expands Line of Sensors for Biometric Access Control

Fingerprint Cards has announced a new addition to its line of fingerprint sensors aimed at access control applications.

Dubbed the ‘FPC1025’, the sensor offers a smaller footprint than those of previous iterations. The device measures 12mm by 12 mm, making it smaller than the FPC1020, which is 14mm by 14mm, and the FPC1024, which is 16mm in diameter.

Like the other devices in Fingerprint Cards’ Access line, the new fingerprint sensor offers low power consumption, a long lifespan, and IP67-rated water resistance. Also like those devices, it uses a capacitive sensor.

“With the further expansion of our portfolio, we are enabling those with even tighter design to enhance new products with market-leading biometric authentication technology,” said Fingerprint Cards VP of Payments and Access Michel Roig in a statement announcing the new sensor. “By leveraging our expertise from the mobile world, we’re committed to tailoring our solutions to meet the power, cost and design challenges of the latest physical and logical access control use cases.”

The sensor’s launch indicates Fingerprint Cards’ increasing activity in the biometric access control space, part of its efforts to expand beyond the mobile biometrics market in which it made its name over the last several years. The announcement comes after FPC launched an updated Biometric Software Platform for one-to-few and one-to-one access control applications in March.
