The partnership with Amadeus, which recently strengthened its digital identity capabilities through a €320 million acquisition of Vision-Box, focuses on testing travel applications, particularly online check-in functionality using the EUDI Wallet.
The wallet’s selective disclosure feature enables users to share only necessary identification details when checking in through Amadeus’s test system, supporting the EU’s privacy-by-design principles and core objectives of the EUDI Wallet initiative.
The project is part of a broader European Commission-funded effort, with €46 million allocated through the Digital Europe Programme. The EWC, which includes approximately 60 organizations, plans to implement the EUDI Wallet across member states by 2026.
Recent EUDI Wallet developments include new payment integration specifications, expanded functionality testing through various pilot programs, and creation of a comprehensive digital identity solution for travel, authentication, payments, and document signing.
Key challenges for the pilot program include technical integration complexity, standardization requirements across EU member states, and driving user adoption.
The pilot results will inform the effectiveness of the EU’s digital identity framework and its potential influence on similar initiatives globally.
