Dan Pinto, the co-founder and CEO of device intelligence firm Fingerprint, joins the latest episode of the ID Talk podcast to discuss his company’s privacy-forward approach to fraud prevention and the growing challenges posed by agentic AI.

Fingerprint offers a set of device identification technologies designed to recognize returning visitors to websites or apps with industry-leading accuracy. The company initially gained traction through its open source browser fingerprinting library and has since evolved into an API-first commercial platform serving a wide range of enterprise clients, particularly in the consumer digital space.
“Our goal is to help companies reduce fraud and friction without touching any personally identifiable information,” Pinto explains. Fingerprint generates pseudonymous device IDs that clients can use to assess trust and risk levels without storing or transmitting user identity data. It’s an approach designed for compliance with privacy frameworks like GDPR.
Pinto describes how the platform provides both deterministic and probabilistic signals to identify devices, along with “smart signals” that help clients detect conditions such as VPN use, developer tools being opened, or values being tampered with – common indicators of bot activity or malicious behavior. He emphasizes that none of these signals alone are definitive, but taken together, they offer a valuable layer for risk assessment.
He also touches on the impact of Apple’s privacy enhancements, such as Intelligent Tracking Prevention and Private Relay, noting that they have inadvertently increased demand for solutions like Fingerprint’s. “A lot of the things Apple did to improve privacy also made it easier for fraudsters to operate under the radar,” he says.
Looking ahead, Pinto discusses the rise of agentic AI—automated systems that can interact with websites using natural language prompts. He shares how internal tests show even non-technical employees can now build functional AI agents that simulate human interaction. Fingerprint is responding by developing new signal sets to detect and classify such behavior, enabling clients to apply appropriate safeguards.
The discussion offers a fascinating and detailed look at how Fingerprint is positioning itself at the intersection of device intelligence, privacy, and the rapidly evolving threat landscape.
