Fingerprint Cards Doubles Revenue in Q1 2025 Amid Strategic Refocus on Core Biometrics

Fingerprint Cards AB (FPC) has reported a 100 percent year-over-year increase in revenue for the first quarter of 2025, marking a significant turnaround following its strategic exit from lower-margin product segments. The company attributed this growth to robust demand for its biometric authentication solutions across various applications.

According to the company’s interim report, net sales for Q1 2025 reached SEK 18.2 million, up from SEK 9.1 million in the same period last year. The gross margin stood at 56.6 percent, reflecting the company’s focus on high-value biometric and identity markets. Operating losses narrowed to SEK 0.3 million, compared to SEK 67.3 million in Q1 2024.

Strategic Shift and Licensing Agreements

FPC’s improved financial performance follows its decision to discontinue operations in the mobile and PC segments, which have been classified as discontinued operations in the financial statements. This move aims to provide a clearer view of the company’s ongoing business performance.

In addition to organic growth, FPC reported SEK 29.5 million in other operating income, primarily from a licensing agreement with Swedish company Smart Eye for its iris recognition technology. SEK 12 million of this amount is non-cash for Q1 2025, as it represents the guaranteed portion of the total remaining consideration under the agreement.

Continued Focus on Core Biometrics

FPC’s strategic refocus on core biometric technologies aligns with broader industry trends. The company has been actively expanding its presence in the biometric authentication market, including partnerships to integrate its technology into various applications.

Earlier this year, FPC announced a collaboration with Anonybit to integrate its biometric solutions into decentralized identity platforms. Such initiatives underscore FPC’s commitment to innovation in the biometric space.
