FaceTec Launches Version 10 of 3D Face Verification Software

FaceTec has released version 10 of its 3D Face Verification suite, a major upgrade to the biometric security platform that anchors remote identity verification for billions of users worldwide. The update represents a milestone in the company’s decade-long development of 3D liveness and matching technology.

A man’s face is obscured by a digital display showing a large orange X symbol, depicting the concept of identity concealment or anonymity in the digital age, with the blurred city skyline in the background creating a futuristic, technological atmosphere.

The new release introduces a range of enhancements. On the security front, version 10 is designed to provide increased protection against emerging generative AI-driven attack methods, an area of growing concern for identity verification providers. The software has been strengthened with what FaceTec describes as Level 5 protection, building on a recent independent certification of its defenses against face data tampering. Conducted by Praetorian Security, that certification validated FaceTec’s technology against attempts to reverse engineer its SDKs, decrypt and manipulate 3D FaceScan payloads, and carry out presentation attacks, with a recorded error rate of zero.

Usability has also been a key focus in the upgrade. FaceTec reports that version 10 delivers faster performance across more than 10,000 supported devices and cameras, improving the speed of both 3D FaceScans and photo ID scans. At the same time, the company has expanded its identity document processing capabilities, offering unlimited photo ID scans with optical character recognition, and support for more than 2,000 OCR templates at no additional cost. The update also adds the ability to handle two or more forms of ID within a single verification process, while extending support for ePassport barcode and NFC chip scanning.

Another major addition is high-accuracy 3D age estimation. This is aimed at industries that require robust age verification, offering what FaceTec says is an anonymous and privacy-preserving method of determining a user’s age in real time. Together with Universal 3D FaceVectors for biometric data storage, these improvements reflect the company’s emphasis on balancing advanced functionality with privacy protections.

“Version 10 of the FaceTec biometric security software is the result of a decade of focused research and development informed by our experience from billions of real-world users in high-value environments,” said Kevin Alan Tussy, CEO of FaceTec. “We stand committed to continuing to provide state-of-the-art biometric security to combat the ever-evolving threat landscape.”

The v10 release arrives on the heels of other recent announcements from the company. Earlier this month, FaceTec confirmed that its software had passed a rigorous Level 4 certification process by Praetorian Security, covering not only presentation attack resistance but also tampering, reverse engineering, and other forms of bypass attempts. That evaluation included 200 hours of direct attack simulations and three weeks of SDK analysis, with no security vulnerabilities reported. The company has paired this with the industry’s only Spoof Bounty/Bypass Program, offering up to $600,000 to security researchers who can successfully defeat its systems.

FaceTec has also been championing its UR Code protocol, which aims to provide a lower-cost, highly scalable alternative to traditional e-passports. The UR Code system allows legal identity-issuing authorities to generate machine-readable codes that combine legal identity data with biometric face data, enabling secure verification without transmitting biometric information off the user’s device.

Recent Scan+Match apps released by the company demonstrate the ability to scan, validate, and match a face to the data encoded in a UR Code with any standard smartphone or webcam. FaceTec has positioned this technology as particularly useful for governments and organizations seeking a decentralized, privacy-preserving solution to identity verification.

Founded in 2013 and headquartered in the US, FaceTec has grown to support staff across multiple regions including Europe and Latin America. Its software now processes more than 3.5 billion liveness checks annually, underpinning identity programs in banking, government, e-commerce, and digital ID systems. The company is focused on offering identity solutions that are entirely customer-run and data-sovereign, ensuring that no biometric data is sent back to FaceTec itself.
