Experian has launched Identity Connect, a single-API identity verification platform built to help UK organizations comply with the country’s emerging digital identity rules while combining biometric, document, and bureau-based checks in one integration.
The platform brings together document capture and validation, selfie and liveness checks, Experian bureau activity data, politically exposed person and mortality screening, and checks against the National Hunter fraud database. Experian says it is the first solution to combine digital and traditional identification methods with its fraud prevention technology and bureau data through a single API.
Identity Connect is built around two UK frameworks: the government’s Good Practice Guide 45, which sets standards for identity proofing, and the Digital Verification Services Trust Framework, which certifies providers for uses such as Right to Work, Right to Rent, and Disclosure and Barring Service checks. Experian says it is the only credit reference agency certified against the DVS framework, and notes that HM Treasury and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology recommend that anti-money-laundering compliance teams consider certified DVS providers as part of their identity verification process.
The launch responds to a shift toward digital verification: citing a May 2025 report from the government’s Office for Digital Identities and Attributes, Experian said 44 percent of people in the UK have already verified their identity digitally, and 75 percent of those who have cited speed and ease as the main benefits. Experian said future updates to Identity Connect will add the option to verify identity using Open Banking data, with a longer-term goal of removing the need for physical documents altogether.
The launch follows other UK moves to build out DVS-certified verification, after UK Finance and major banks advanced a voluntary digital verification service built around the same trust framework, and as the Treasury and DSIT published guidance formally recognizing DVS providers for anti-money-laundering compliance.
“Identity verification is the front door to almost every digital interaction, and getting it right has never mattered more,” said Paul Weathersby, chief product officer for identity and fraud at Experian UK&I. “Experian Identity Connect brings together certified verification, Experian’s trusted data and built-in fraud protection in one platform, so organisations can verify customers with confidence and meet their regulatory obligations.”
