Entrust and PlaySafe ID have announced a strategic partnership to deliver verified digital identity solutions for the online gaming sector. The collaboration, unveiled on July 23, 2025, is designed to support safer digital experiences while enabling gaming companies to comply with new UK child protection regulations taking effect this month under the Online Safety Act.
Biometric Verification to Support Compliance and Player Privacy
According to Entrust and PlaySafe ID, the partnership brings together Entrust’s identity verification technology and PlaySafe ID’s secure gaming platform to help operators reduce fraud, confirm user identities, and safeguard younger players—all while maintaining user privacy. The solution is aligned with the broader movement in digital identity and age assurance technologies, such as recent innovations in in-app age verification widgets.
The identity verification process requires players to upload a government-issued photo ID and complete a short video selfie. Entrust’s backend technology verifies the authenticity of the ID document and performs a biometric face match to ensure that the ID belongs to the individual. Once verified, PlaySafe ID issues an anonymized digital ID that confirms the user’s human identity while preserving privacy during gameplay. This ID can help combat cheating, automated bot activity, and inappropriate behavior within online environments.
Industry Adoption and Regulatory Readiness
The partnership arrives as gaming platforms face mounting pressure to strengthen age and identity controls. The UK’s Protection of Children Codes, part of the Online Safety Act, require platforms accessible to minors to implement stricter verification measures. Entrust and PlaySafe ID’s integrated solution aims to offer a compliant, privacy-first approach that addresses these mandates.
According to the companies, multiple major gaming platforms are already in discussions to adopt the PlaySafe ID solution, with the first integrations expected to begin later this year. The launch comes amid rapid expansion in the identity verification sector, with leading providers reporting significant growth in usage volumes.
