Trident Digital and the DRC’s Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Digital Technology have signed an agreement to move from planning to implementation of a comprehensive digital identity verification and authentication system.
The initiative extends existing digital identity infrastructure projects in the DRC, including recent improvements to the country’s National Register of Natural Persons (RNIP). The new system will feature data protection measures that meet international standards for citizen privacy and information security.
The project encompasses the development of an integrated digital identity verification system, secure infrastructure for government services, enhanced e-governance capabilities, and comprehensive data protection protocols. The development reflects a wider trend of digital identity modernization across Africa, as shown by recent UNDP initiatives supporting digital transformation throughout the continent.
The new system aims to improve service delivery efficiency, strengthen national security, and promote financial inclusion. While the technical specifications remain undisclosed, the infrastructure is expected to support government service delivery while maintaining robust data protection standards.
