Docusign has entered into a strategic partnership with Socure, a leading provider of AI-powered digital identity verification. The partnership will embed Socure’s comprehensive suite of IDV, risk-based authentication, and fraud prevention tools directly into the Docusign Identify platform.
This integration enables Docusign customers to move beyond “outdated, expensive, and inaccurate” Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA) methods. Instead, they can now leverage Socure’s AI-driven, risk-based engine to assess a signatory’s identity in real-time.
The system is designed to be dynamic. Low-risk users will be automatically approved in a frictionless, “in the background” experience. Higher-risk transactions will automatically trigger a “step-up” authentication, requiring the user to pass a higher-friction verification, such as a document or biometric check. Socure states this will enable organizations to “create a seamless signing experience for legitimate users while proactively assessing risk”.
This partnership is a key part of Docusign’s broader strategy to build an open, “identity-orchestration” platform. The deal with Socure is not exclusive. Docusign Identify has also formed partnerships with Clear and IDnow, and previously integrated selfie biometrics from Onfido in 2023.
This “open ecosystem” approach positions Docusign not as an identity provider, but as an “identity orchestrator.” It creates a middleware layer where its millions of customers can choose their preferred identity vendor from a menu of integrated partners, all within the existing Docusign agreement workflow. This strategy effectively commoditizes high-assurance IDV into a feature, making it accessible to a much broader market and making the Docusign platform more central to the entire business process.
