Deutsche Telekom has launched Magenta Security Mobile.ID, a unified mobile credential platform that allows enterprise employees to store digital identities, certificates, and encryption keys on their smartphone, replacing physical access cards, key fobs, and credential dongles with a single secure application.
The platform enables users to open office doors, log in to laptops, and encrypt emails using near-field communication or Bluetooth. For Samsung smartphones, sensitive material including keys, certificates, and IDs will be stored on a chip in the device’s built-in secure element, providing hardware-level protection isolated from the main operating system. Deutsche Telekom indicated that additional hardware partners are planned beyond the initial Samsung collaboration.
Thomas Tschersich, Deutsche Telekom’s chief security officer, said the platform is built around the concept of digital trust in Europe. The product offers full data sovereignty and can operate via Bluetooth or NFC, he noted, without depending on continuous network connectivity.
Pilot testing is scheduled to begin in spring 2026, starting with Deutsche Telekom’s own employees. The product will be available to European business customers from summer 2026, with initial availability in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland).
Deutsche Telekom has indicated plans to extend the platform’s capabilities over time. One application under consideration is a watermark for photos and video created on enrolled smartphones, designed to certify the content as authentic and prevent it from being used as deepfake source material.
The launch extends Deutsche Telekom’s identity portfolio into enterprise credentials. The company has been working on age verification components for the EU Digital Identity Wallet alongside Scytáles, and its chief executive has publicly called for broader e-government rollout using digital citizen IDs in Germany.
