The Czech Ministry of the Interior has awarded a contract valued at CZK 2,882,000 (approximately €116,000) to Vítkovice IT Solutions for the delivery and installation of biometric equipment. The award notice, published in the EU’s Tenders Electronic Daily (TED), specifies the purchase of six biometric cameras and 22 fingerprint readers. The contract will be completed over a 23-week period and is partially financed with EU funds.
Procurement Details
The award was issued under contract ID PPR-23258-12/ČJ-2025-990656, with the agreement signed in late July 2025. The procurement falls under CPV code 35125110 for biometric sensors. Delivery and installation will support Ministry of the Interior operations at designated locations in the Czech Republic. All equipment is to be shipped and integrated during the 23-week implementation window.
According to the official notice, the procurement process was conducted as an “other single-stage procedure” and evaluated entirely on lowest price. Only one bid was submitted, which was accepted. This makes Vítkovice IT Solutions the sole contractor for the project.
Biometric Equipment in Focus
The order consists of six biometric cameras and 22 fingerprint readers. While limited in scale, the equipment reflects a continued emphasis by Czech authorities on improving identification capabilities within law enforcement and administrative operations. The devices are intended to strengthen biometric data capture and verification, complementing broader EU efforts to modernize security and identity management practices.
The project does not represent a nationwide digital identity system upgrade but rather a targeted acquisition of hardware for specific Ministry needs. The relatively modest value and scope underline its status as an incremental procurement rather than a structural overhaul of Czechia’s national identification systems.
Regional Context
Across Europe, public agencies are steadily adopting biometric devices for identity management and border control. Earlier this year, several EU member states advanced biometric deployments as part of broader modernization efforts. These range from fingerprint identification systems to the introduction of EU-wide digital identity tools. The Czech procurement fits within this regional trend, albeit on a smaller scale, by equipping domestic authorities with additional biometric capture capabilities.
The Czech Ministry of the Interior’s award to Vítkovice IT Solutions underscores how even relatively small contracts contribute to the gradual integration of biometric technologies into public-sector operations. With EU funding support, the project demonstrates the continued role of regional financing in enabling member states to adopt security and identification solutions tailored to their specific requirements.
