Crossmatch‘s Nomad 60 Wireless Reader has received FBI Appendix F and FAP 60 certification, the company has announced.

First announced last spring, the sleek, handheld device uses a capacitive thin-film transistor sensor, helping to ensure that it can scan in bright outdoor lighting conditions. Additionally, Crossmatch says it isn’t impacted by stains or tattoos on fingers; as such, it “facilitates rapid fingerprint collection of non-cooperative subjects and those with large hands, yet stores easily in your pocket,” according to a statement announcing the device.

Given its heavy duty certifications and performance, the device is being aimed at the government sector, with Crossmatch marketing VP John Hinmon emphasizing the device’s appeal to law enforcement, border control, and military users, who won’t be “encumbered by power and communication cords, light sensitivity or hard to use smaller platen formats – those hassles don’t exist with NOMAD.”

Of course, in reaching out to these markets, the device’s FBI Appendix F and FAP 60 certification will go a long way, potentially opening up many doors to projects and agencies where such high-level certifications are a standard requirement.
