Lithuania-based iDenfy is looking to enhance the capabilities of its selfie-based biometric identification solution through a partnership with Smart Engines.
Based in Moscow, the latter is a computer vision AI specialist. It will be helping iDenfy with the document reading component of iDenfy’s identity solution, which uses facial recognition to match end users to their official identity documents.
In a statement announcing the partnership, iDenfy explained that Smart Engines’ technology is capable of extracting data from over 1,500 different identity documents, including passports and driver’s licenses. It also supports over 100 languages, and can process an ID card in 130 to 150 milliseconds per frame.
Perhaps more importantly, Smart Engines’ technology doesn’t requires document images to be transferred to external servers, helping to protect the privacy of end users.
“Smart Engines’ years of research and development in document recognition and Green AI will help us improve our ID verification service,” explained iDenfy CEO Domantas Ciulde. “With their comprehensive document authentication technology, we will be able to verify documents more quickly and confidently without causing any significant harm to the environment.”
The partnership’s announcement comes just a month after iDenfy revealed that its identity verification technology would be used for the authentication of Latvian citizens using an innovative e-government platform called MyVoice, which is aimed at letting citizens advocate for policy changes. iDenfy also announced last month that PanPay would use its technology for the verification of Europeans using its payment services to do business with China.
“iDenfy is a strong player on EU market with a great expertise in user verification,” observed Smart Engines CEO Vladimir Arlazarov, adding that his firms’ technology would help to ensure a strong user experience and compliance with data protection standards.
