Collins Aerospace has been selected to spearhead a comprehensive digital transformation of Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), marking a significant milestone in the airport’s modernization efforts. The partnership with New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC) will introduce advanced passenger processing systems, biometric technology, and automated solutions aimed at enhancing the airport’s efficiency and passenger experience.
The modernization initiative, scheduled to commence in May, will deploy state-of-the-art digital solutions across NAIA’s terminals. Collins Aerospace will implement a range of technologies, including biometric screening systems, self-service kiosks, and automated baggage handling systems, building upon its established expertise in touchless check-in solutions.
The project’s implementation will follow a phased approach, with core passenger processing and baggage tracking systems becoming operational by August. The final phase, set for completion in September 2025, will introduce self-service check-in kiosks, pre-security e-gates, and biometric boarding gates, similar to systems Collins has previously deployed at other international airports.
A key component of the modernization will be the integration of biometric screening technology, which aims to streamline passenger verification processes and reduce wait times.
Ramon S. Ang, President of NNIC, emphasized the transformation’s significance. “This modernization is long overdue, and we are committed to transforming NAIA into a world-class gateway that meets the expectations of modern travelers,” he said. “With these advancements, NAIA will be one of the most modern and efficient airports in the region.”
The upgrade will also include an advanced Airport Operational Database and Resource Management System to optimize staffing and resource allocation, alongside a comprehensive baggage reconciliation system for real-time tracking.
