Collins Aerospace Debuts Enhanced Airport Biometric Kiosks at PTE Madrid

Collins Aerospace has unveiled major upgrades to its SelfServ platform at the Passenger Terminal Expo (PTE) 2025 in Madrid, introducing a new generation of self-service kiosks designed to streamline check-in, bag drop, and identity verification processes.

A key feature of the upgraded SelfServ platform is its integration with Collins’ SelfPass biometric solution, enabling passengers to enroll their facial biometrics directly at the kiosk. Once enrolled, travelers can proceed through subsequent checkpoints—security screening, boarding, and more—without needing to show documents again. This frictionless experience aligns with broader industry trends toward biometric journeys and contactless passenger flows.

The new kiosks deliver significant speed improvements, reducing check-in and bag-tagging processes to under 20 seconds. They also feature self-sanitizing screens and embedded AI chips for predictive maintenance, improving uptime and reducing IT intervention. The design is fully customizable, offering airports flexibility in branding and user interface personalization.

“What sets SelfServ apart from other solutions is its integration within a broader portfolio of self-service and biometric technology,” said Nicole White, Vice President and General Manager of Connected Aviation at Collins Aerospace. “These latest advancements represent a major step forward in our commitment to enhancing the passenger experience and helping airports and airlines meet the growing demand for more efficient operations.”

The platform is designed for common-use deployment, enabling multiple airlines to share infrastructure. This model allows a single agent to monitor multiple kiosks, reducing staffing needs and operational costs. The kiosks are certified to Common Use Self Service (CUSS) 2.0 standards, ensuring full compatibility and scalability as industry needs evolve. More than 100 airlines are already certified to use the SelfServ platform.

Rakan Khaled, General Manager of Airport Solutions at Collins Aerospace, emphasized the solution’s strategic value: “As air travel continues to surge, the only sustainable way forward is through smart technology. Our platform is scalable and future-proofed, designed to meet both today’s demands and tomorrow’s growth.”

The SelfServ platform is supported by Collins’ managed services offering, which helps airports maintain and optimize their IT systems without dedicating additional internal resources. This support is especially valuable for mid-size and regional airports with limited technical staff.

Live demonstrations of the upgraded SelfServ platform took place at PTE 2025 in Madrid, where attendees previewed the enhanced kiosks’ user flows and back-end support systems. The new units are slated for deployment in select airports within the next four months, underscoring the rapid pace of implementation.

While the platform has been well received by industry stakeholders, some observers note that privacy concerns related to biometric data collection remain a key issue. Advocates emphasize the need for robust safeguards such as encryption, data minimization, and compliance with international privacy standards.

Backed by the financial strength of parent company RTX Corp, Collins Aerospace continues to invest in advanced airport solutions.
