Cloudflare Outage Disrupts Edge, DNS and Zero Trust Services

Cloudflare experienced a significant outage this morning that disrupted parts of its global network and affected customers relying on edge delivery, DNS, and Zero Trust services. The company initially reported issues with its support portal and later expanded the incident to cover the broader “Cloudflare Global Network,” indicating widespread HTTP 500 errors and dashboard/API accessibility problems. During the disruption, Cloudflare warned that users might have difficulty loading websites and applications routed through its infrastructure.

Coverage from BleepingComputer highlighted that the outage impacted Cloudflare nodes in multiple European cities, including Bucharest, Zurich, Warsaw, Oslo, Amsterdam, Berlin, Frankfurt, Vienna, Stockholm, and Hamburg. Downdetector recorded large spikes in user reports referencing difficulty reaching prominent platforms and cloud services, though such reports reflect user experience rather than confirmed outages of third-party platforms. For organizations using Cloudflare’s Zero Trust products such as Cloudflare Access or Warp for secure remote connectivity, the outage produced temporary authentication and connectivity failures.

The Guardian reported that Cloudflare observed a “spike in unusual traffic” beginning around 11:20am local time, which contributed to the degradation across several services. Cloudflare temporarily disabled its Warp encryption service in London as part of mitigation efforts, noting that users routing traffic through Warp in that region could experience failures until fixes propagated. The company later reported signs of recovery but cautioned that elevated error rates might persist while engineers completed remediation and continued investigating the cause.

The incident underscores how centrally Cloudflare sits in modern authentication flows. When Cloudflare intermediates identity providers, SSO portals, or Zero Trust gateways, an edge outage can temporarily interfere with login and access pathways even when the underlying systems remain operational.
