Stripe, the global financial technology platform, has announced a comprehensive partnership with CLEAR to manage payments and billing operations for the identity verification company’s more than 30 million members. The collaboration marks a significant expansion of CLEAR’s services beyond its traditional airport security expediting program.
Under the new partnership, Stripe will power all of CLEAR’s payment operations, both online and in-person, while providing enhanced subscription management capabilities through Stripe Billing. The integration enables CLEAR to offer customers a broader range of payment options, including digital wallets.
This partnership comes as CLEAR continues to expand its presence in the identity verification space, having recently extended its biometric screening services to Atlanta’s International Terminal. The company has introduced several new services leveraging Stripe’s payment infrastructure, including CLEAR Mobile, which allows non-CLEAR Plus members to purchase one-time QR codes for expedited airport security verification.
The collaboration also introduces new technological capabilities for CLEAR’s operations. Stripe Terminal now processes card payments for CLEAR’s facial recognition pods at airports, which were launched in November 2024. Additionally, Stripe’s fraud prevention system, Radar, helps reduce fraudulent transactions and false declines during checkout processes.
CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman Becker emphasized the alignment between the companies’ missions, stating, “Just as CLEAR makes confirming your identity seamless and secure, Stripe is helping us make billing and payments effortless—allowing us to focus on delivering frictionless experiences for our members.”
The partnership appears particularly timely as biometric verification technologies gain increasing importance across various sectors. CLEAR has been actively expanding beyond its original airport security focus, as evidenced by its recent implementation of biometric login systems for T-Mobile.
Early results from the partnership show improved conversion rates for CLEAR, with Stripe’s card account updater and network tokenization technologies helping to increase authorization rates and reduce subscription churn caused by credit card changes.
