“While the CLEAR platform supports both facial and iris recognition, in its new LAX announcement the company put a focus on the latter modality, asserting that its ‘touchless technology uses your eyes to confirm you are you.'”
CLEAR‘s biometric passenger screening program is now available at all of the Los Angeles Airport’s terminals, marking the latest sign of the platform’s expansion.
The achievement is the result of CLEAR’s solution being implemented at the Tom Bradley Terminal, and arrives four years after CLEAR first made its debut at the Los Angeles airport. It also comes after CLEAR launched expedited screening lanes at airports in Oakland and Sacramento earlier this year, demonstrating CLEAR’s accelerated growth in California even as it expands across the United States more broadly.
The CLEAR solution enables individuals to proceed through an expedited security screening process at participating airports by linking their pre-registered profile to biometrics that are scanned at airport screening. While the CLEAR platform supports both facial and iris recognition, in its new LAX announcement the company put a focus on the latter modality, asserting that its “touchless technology uses your eyes to confirm you are you”.
Offering commentary of her own, CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker emphasized the convenience of the screening solution. “With CLEAR, all you need is you to open up a world of frictionless experiences,” she said. “We will continue innovating to deliver faster, safer, and easier access to get our members back to doing what they love.”
The deployment of CLEAR lanes at the Tom Bradley Terminal may hint at future developments concerning the airport’s use of biometrics. In 2020, LAX authorities began trialling a self-service bag drop system at the terminal that had the capability of being integrated with biometric technology in the future.
In any case, for now the LAX expansion offers an indication of CLEAR’s momentum with respect to its biometric screening platform, which has not only been deployed at airports but also at major sports venues for visitor access. Meanwhile, CLEAR’s efforts to promote its Health Pass vaccination passport app have also shown progress in recent weeks, with the latest development arriving in the form of Apple Health compatibility.
