Central Bank of Jordan Formally Approves Sanad Digital ID for Banking Identity Verification Across All Banks

Jordan’s Central Bank has issued a formal announcement confirming that the Sanad app’s digital identity is now an officially accepted method for customer identity verification across all banks operating in the Kingdom. The announcement positions the Sanad digital ID as a recognized equivalent to physical identification documents for banking transactions.

The Central Bank of Jordan framed the authorization as part of its broader agenda to advance banking digitization and security modernization. Under the new policy, bank customers can use their Sanad digital identity to satisfy identity verification requirements at financial institutions, covering onboarding workflows and in-branch servicing processes that previously required physical ID presentation.

The decision represents a formal regulatory authorization for digital identity in core banking operations – a step that carries direct implications for KYC compliance and customer onboarding procedures across the country’s banking sector. Regulators, not just operators, are now treating the Sanad digital identity as legally sufficient for identity verification in financial services contexts.

The Central Bank’s move builds on the Sanad app’s instant digital identity activation feature introduced in January 2026, which allowed users to activate their digital identities remotely without requiring a physical enrollment visit. That capability reduced the friction associated with adopting the digital ID and expanded its potential user base ahead of regulatory recognition events.

Jordan’s government has been systematically extending the Sanad digital ID’s scope across official use cases. The banking authorization follows a pattern of cross-sector acceptance: Jordan’s acceptance of digital ID cards for elections had already established a precedent for using the Sanad credential in high-stakes civic contexts, demonstrating government confidence in the platform’s security and reliability.

Infrastructure partnerships have supported the country’s digital identity expansion. IrisGuard and MODEE Jordan’s “Identity Without Borders” initiative highlighted efforts to scale federated digital ID services, reinforcing the technical ecosystem that now underpins the CBJ’s banking authorization.

The Central Bank’s formal endorsement marks a significant milestone in Jordan’s digital identity program, moving the Sanad platform from optional alternative to officially recognized credential across the regulated financial sector.
