CardLab has unveiled its latest innovation in biometric security with “Access,” a next-generation smart card that integrates Fingerprint Cards AB’s FPC1323 T-Shape fingerprint sensor.
The Access card combines physical and digital security features, eliminating the need for traditional passwords through fingerprint authentication. The news comes as Fingerprint Cards has demonstrated significant market traction with its T-Shape sensor series, having shipped over one million units to various manufacturers.
Key features of the Access card include offline identity verification capabilities, encrypted data storage, and multi-factor security protocols. The card supports both NFC and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connectivity, ensuring broad compatibility with existing access control infrastructure. A notable technical innovation is its rechargeable battery system with energy harvesting technology, designed to extend operational lifespan.
The collaboration builds upon previous partnership efforts between CardLab and Fingerprint Cards. This latest offering aligns with Fingerprint Cards’ broader strategy in unified access control solutions, as evidenced by its AllKey system development last year.
“Biometric cards for the access sector have long been hindered by fragmented infrastructure which often leads to a mixed user experience,” said Adam Philpott, CEO at Fingerprint Cards AB. “It’s great to see CardLab tackle this problem through their latest product, Access, which represents a significant leap forward in what’s available on the market today.”
CardLab CEO Frank Sandeløv emphasized the product’s user-centric design: “Security should be convenient, reliable, and effective. With the Access card, we’re addressing a key challenge in authentication—efficiently combining logical and physical access in a single device.”
The card is currently preparing for FIDO 1+ certification, which will further validate its security capabilities for digital transactions. The implementation of the FPC1323 sensor provides rapid authentication speeds, making it particularly suitable for high-traffic environments, while its self-learning technology ensures consistent performance over time.
