VivaLNK Partners with Alibaba on Remote Patient Monitoring System

Connected healthcare solutions company VivaLNK has announced a new multi-patient remote monitoring system in partnership with Chinese tech giant Alibaba.

Prompted by the recent outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus — though suitable for use against other infectious diseases — the system is designed to allow caregivers to safely monitor large numbers of patients while minimizing physical contact.

The system works by fitting patients with a wearable sensor that tracks their temperature, but could be upgraded in the future to collect biometric data including ECG, heart rate, respiratory rate, and motion.

The data gathered by the sensor is sent to an internal server in the hospital, or to the cloud — courtesy of Alibaba cloud — where it is then sent to the patient monitoring application, which would ideally be in a separate location to keep practitioners safe by avoiding physical contact and proximity.

“We are proud to be working with Alibaba in order to advance innovative healthcare solutions throughout communities,” said Jiang Li, CEO of VivaLNK. “Remote patient monitoring solutions not only help deliver a higher level of care, but also reduces overall healthcare costs,” he added.

The system can also be used to monitor patients when they are discharged from the medical facility, which allows for proactive follow up and can help avoid rehospitalization. It is available through the Alibaba Cloud Marketplace and can be deployed to any location as it can run entirely on a wireless network.

The solution is currently deployed at 14 hospitals, including Shanghai Public Health Clinic Center, and Zengzhou Qiboshan Hospital.
