Mantra Softech has released a new optical fingerprint sensor that can be deployed to bring biometric authentication to a range of different devices and applications. Dubbed the MFS500, the new sensor is an FBI-certified FAP10 scanner and is compatible with the Windows, Android, and Linux operating systems.
The other noteworthy feature is the sensor’s platen prism, which is made with glass instead of plastic. Mantra explains that while many manufacturers prefer plastic prisms due to their lower cost, a glass prism is more durable and will not become discolored as the result of heavy use over time. The company also claims that the MFS500 is a scratch-free piece of hardware.
Mantra has developed a series of MFS100 SDKs and APIs to help third parties integrate the sensors into their own systems and product offerings. Potential uses of the technology include access control, identity verification, and Know-Your-Customer solutions.
Mantra is one of India’s leading providers of biometric components, and has supplied biometric sensors for a number of major Aadhaar programs. The MIS100 iris scanner was used to hand out funding to small farmers in Bihar, while the company’s fingerprint and iris tech was similarly used to facilitate the distribution of food in the North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
