ImageWare Receives Patent for Conditional Biometric System

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has officially granted ImageWare a patent for “Conditional and Situational Biometric Authentication and Enrollment.” The patent concerns the capture of biometric credentials in different situations and environments and covers any biometric capture device, including kiosks, cameras, and fingerprint and iris scanners.  

According to ImageWare, the patent will allow the company to deliver more flexible authentication solutions for its customers. Depending on the situation, the patent allows ImageWare to require specific biometric modalities, and allows customers to enroll users on one device and then authenticate them on another.

ImageWare plans to leverage the patent in its Digital Identity Platform, which allows a user to create a single biometric identity and then leverage that identity to log into different systems.

“Our central mission is the promise of anonymity, which does not disclose Personally Identifiable Information throughout the journey of authentication,” said Kristin Taylor, the newly appointed President and CEO of ImageWare. “ImageWare has developed deep technical expertise on complex federal government projects, and today we bring that defense-grade security to everyday use.”

The new patent builds on ImageWare’s success in the past few months. The company recently finalized multiple deals worth an estimated $1.2 million, and also achieved SOC-2 compliance in December.
