Avigilon Video Management Software Gets Facial Recognition Features

Video analytics and security solutions company Motorola Solutions has announced an update to its Avigilon Control Center (ACC) 7.6 to include new artificial intelligence-powered facial recognition features and analytics.

The new video management capabilities in ACC 7.6 include new controls to govern the retention and accessibility of watch list data, the ability to create and manage multiple lists from within the ACC system, and the user option to be able to upload reference images to a watch list.

The new facial recognition features do not make decisions or take any actions on their own; instead any data entered into a watch list is managed and maintained by the customers that are using the technology.

Using a school campus as an example, an individual deemed a threat to the students or staff would have their picture added to the watch list. In the event of ACC 7.6 detecting their presence, the school’s security officers would receive an alert notification and respond accordingly.

“When leveraged responsibly, facial recognition is an incredibly powerful tool that can assist in numerous ways, including helping enterprise organizations make better informed decisions that empower them to respond to events proactively,” said John Kedzierski, senior vice president of Video Security Solutions for Motorola Solutions. “For our enterprise customers, we believe potential facial recognition matches should always be assessed and verified by a trained specialist who can then determine whether further investigation or action is necessary.”

In addition to the new facial recognition capabilities, ACC 7.6 includes a new Unusual Activity Detection analytics feature that provides site-wide analytics intelligence able to recognize activity defined by the user as ‘out-of-ordinary.’ This could include unusual speed of movement, or the location of people or vehicles, and uses edge-based intelligence to distinguish between typical and abnormal events over time by continuously learning what activities are usual for a particular space over time.

ACC 7.6 — which is Open Network Video Interface Forum (ONVIF) Profile G compliant — will be available for preview during Motorola Solutions’ first ever virtual showcase, which is taking place from Match 18 to 20.
