Alcatraz AI Brings The Rock to ISC West

The facial recognition specialist Alcatraz AI is bringing a new access control solution to the upcoming ISC West event in Las Vegas. The 3D Facial Authentication Platform has been cheekily dubbed the Rock, and will be on display at booth #13127.

While the eponymous prison was built to keep people in, the new facial recognition platform is built to keep unauthorized people out. The Rock was designed primarily for physical security, and can be deployed to replace or supplement ID badges at any point of entry.

According to Alcatraz, the Rock will be particularly useful for organizations that have an issue with tailgating, which occurs when someone without a credential tries to follow someone with legitimate access into the building before the door closes. The Rock is able to recognize such behavior and notify security personnel to the presence of any unauthorized individual.

“The popularity of face identification in smartphones has created a demand for the technology in other applications. We started Alcatraz AI to bring facial authentication to the access control market because it provides a more secure way to provide access control as well as an opportunity for frictionless access and improved flow,” said Alcatraz AI Founder and CEO Vince Gaydarzhiev. Gaydarzhiev is a former Apple engineer, and helped develop the Face ID facial recognition system during his tenure with the company.

The Rock is compatible with any existing badge-based access control system. Alcatraz argues that it provides strong passive security that negates the need for a turnstile or a guard.

The solution arrives roughly a year after Alcatraz brought in $6 million in venture capital during a funding round that included Johnson Controls’ JCI Ventures. Johnson Controls is one of two other companies that will be showcasing the Rock at ISC West, which is proceeding as scheduled despite ongoing concerns about COVID-19.

ISC West will run from March 17-20 at the Sands Expo Center. Johnson Controls can be found at booth #20005, while Boon Edam will be at booth #8037.
