BIO-key and Prosegur’s Cipher Bring Identity Security Into Managed Cybersecurity, Starting in Portugal

BIO-key International has integrated its identity and access management (IAM) and biometric authentication technologies into the services of Cipher, the cybersecurity division of security group Prosegur. The combined offering is launching first in Portugal, and the companies plan to extend it to other markets where Cipher operates.

Cipher has more than 20 years of experience and over 200 cybersecurity professionals, with operations in Spain, Portugal, the United States and Brazil. It runs six Cybersecurity Operations Centers and provides managed detection and response, cyber intelligence, security assessments, penetration testing and governance, risk and compliance services. Prosegur operates in 36 countries and has more than 180,000 employees.

The integration is meant to let Cipher extend its services from infrastructure protection to the identity of the people accessing systems, applications and sensitive information. The portfolio includes BIO-key’s PortalGuard IAM platform, which supports multi-factor authentication, single sign-on and centralized access management, along with passwordless authentication and zero trust identity controls.

It also includes BIO-key’s Identity-Bound Biometrics, a fingerprint-based approach that binds authentication to the individual rather than relying solely on a device or credential, and emerging agentic AI authentication and authorization capabilities designed to introduce human identity verification into AI-driven workflows and control actions initiated by AI agents.

BIO-key has been building its international channel, including a partnership with Al Majlis Group in the Gulf in September. “This is an important strategic step in expanding BIO-key’s international technology ecosystem,” said Nicholas Prinz, BIO-key’s international channel director. “Our ambition is to forge an international initiative combining the strengths of both organizations.”

“Organizations are recognizing that protecting their infrastructure is not enough if the identities accessing that infrastructure are not properly secured,” said Luis Martins, Cipher’s country manager for Portugal. “We look to build a strong foundation in Portugal and then create opportunities to extend this integrated offering to customers across other markets.”

Alex Rocha, BIO-key’s international managing director, said Cipher has built relationships with more than 800 enterprise customers, and that BIO-key’s identity assurance can strengthen access to security platforms, operational systems and sensitive applications inside Cipher’s integrated security operations center. “As physical and digital security increasingly converge, organizations need to protect not only their facilities, people and assets, but also their digital identities, infrastructure and AI-driven operations,” he said.
