Bahrain’s Batelco Launches Biometric Digital ID System for Mobile Services

Batelco, Bahrain’s leading telecommunications provider, has integrated eKey 2.0, a digital identity solution, into its services to enhance secure access and streamline customer onboarding processes.

The enhanced digital identity system leverages biometric authentication, specifically facial recognition technology, to verify user identities securely. Through integration with Batelco’s mobile app, customers will experience a simplified onboarding process while maintaining robust security standards. Future plans include expanding eKey 2.0’s capabilities to e-commerce transactions, enabling biometric verification for purchases.

“We applaud Batelco for embracing eKey 2.0 and driving change in the telecom market,” said Christopher Hild, CEO of Beyon Connect. “Their forward-looking approach underscores the benefits of a smooth, secure user onboarding, faster service provisioning, and robust identity verification.”

The implementation of eKey 2.0 extends beyond telecommunications services. Bahrain Post has recently integrated the technology into its “My Gov” app, enabling citizens and residents to manage postal services securely. Additionally, the National Portal for e-Government (Bahrain.bh) has incorporated eKey 2.0 to provide protected access to various government services.

The widespread adoption of eKey 2.0 across both private and public sectors demonstrates Bahrain’s commitment to developing a robust digital ecosystem that prioritizes security and user experience while advancing the country’s digital transformation goals.
