The new platform incorporates biometric authentication technology for user verification, following a global trend toward more secure identity verification methods. This approach aligns with similar initiatives worldwide, as major financial institutions and technology companies increasingly move away from password-based systems in favor of biometric authentication.
The eKey 2.0 system offers advanced biometric authentication capabilities and is widely accessible through multiple app stores, including the e-government application store (bahrain.bh/apps), iOS, Android, and Huawei platforms. The system integrates with the new My Gov app, providing access to 41 government eServices and allowing users to view up to 10 personal documents and certificates.
Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, iGA Chief Executive, noted that the launch aligns with the directives of Bahrain’s government under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The implementation of eKey 2.0 is part of Bahrain’s broader initiative to modernize public eServices, with the simultaneous launch of the My Gov app complementing the platform. This digital transformation effort aims to enhance service accessibility while maintaining robust security standards for both government and private sector online services.
The new authentication system adheres to international digital identity standards, positioning Bahrain alongside other nations implementing advanced digital identity solutions.
