The Atlanta Hawks have launched a new facial authentication entry system at State Farm Arena, marking a significant advancement in stadium access technology. The system, which leverages Verizon’s 5G Edge Accelerated Access solution and Wicket’s facial authentication technology, has been implemented in the Delta Fly-Through Lanes to streamline ticketing and security processes.
With an average ticket redemption time of just six seconds, the technology has demonstrated strong user adoption in previous deployments, with 72 percent of enrolled fans returning to use the lanes multiple times. This implementation follows a broader trend of facial recognition adoption in sports venues, as recently demonstrated at the Australian Open.
The deployment of facial recognition technology for stadium entry represents a growing industry trend, with Wicket’s technology already being implemented across NFL stadiums.
The facial authentication system is part of a comprehensive technology partnership between Verizon and State Farm Arena, which includes the implementation of Verizon Sensor Insights, an IoT-based solution for monitoring technical equipment and optimizing resource efficiency. The venue has also introduced the Hawks Express Cashierless Checkout store, which combines AI-powered computer vision with Verizon’s 5G Edge technology to enable contactless purchases.
Verizon Sensor Insights, which uses LoRaWAN and BLE sensors, extends beyond traditional venue management to include applications in food refrigeration and insurance. At State Farm Arena, the system monitors environmental conditions in equipment hubs and helps optimize operational efficiency, building on Verizon’s established expertise in security and monitoring solutions.
