Art Sales Vault has selected authID to verify purchasers for galleries, auction houses and art dealers using government identity documents, facial matching and liveness detection.
The biometric process will become part of Art Sales Vault’s know-your-customer and transaction-support platform. A purchaser submits an identity document and a live facial image, and authID checks the document before comparing its portrait with the biometric capture.
Art Sales Vault provides compliance services designed for art transactions, including screening for sanctions exposure and indicators of money laundering. The company says confirming the purchaser’s identity is the starting point for those checks, particularly in a market where buyers and sellers may operate through intermediaries and asset values can be subjective.
The implementation is intended to block fraudulent documents, deepfakes and AI-generated images or video during onboarding. Once an individual has been verified, the same biometric identity can support later confirmation of that person’s participation in a transaction.
authID has been extending that biometric root-of-trust model into several specialized workflows. A recent partnership with Section 2 connected biometric identity with financial-crime intelligence, combining user verification with risk signals used in regulated transactions.
The company has also applied the technology to employment screening. First Mile Labs selected authID to verify remote workers amid concerns about candidate impersonation. The Art Sales Vault deployment follows the same general pattern of establishing identity before access or a high-value activity is approved.
For art businesses, the verification result will feed into a broader due-diligence process rather than make a compliance decision on its own. Art Sales Vault’s platform reviews other risk information and flags sanctioned people or entities, leaving dealers and their advisers to address issues identified during a sale.
The companies did not disclose contract value, expected transaction volume or a timetable for completing the rollout. Art Sales Vault Chief Executive Deborah Hrbek said the company will rely on authID for the purchaser-confirmation component of its KYC service.
The deployment connects authID’s biometric checks to Art Sales Vault’s anti-money-laundering controls, creating a transaction record tied to a verified purchaser.
