The new credentials will incorporate advanced security features in 100 percent polycarbonate cards, including laser-engraved portrait photos, secure background patterns with smooth color transitions, and reflective embossed patterns. These security elements are integrated within the card structure, enhancing resistance to tampering and counterfeiting.
The agreement strengthens Thales’ presence in North America, where it currently serves 17 jurisdictions. The company has shown solid growth among license and identity solution providers in the United States, having won a similar contract with Alaska for driver’s licenses and ID cards last year.
“These next generation identity cards provide Arizona citizens, businesses and state officials with stronger security for these credentials, allowing for quicker validation,” said Tyson Moler, Vice President for Thales Identity and Biometric Solutions in North America. “Thales is pleased to partner with the Arizona DPS, leveraging our key strengths and expertise in reliable and secure documents solutions.”
The off-site printing facility will produce four credential types: Concealed Weapons Permits (CWP), Certificate of Firearms Proficiency (LEOSA), Fingerprint Clearance Cards (FCC), and Security Guard and Private Investigator ID cards (SG/PI).
