Electronic notebook maker Clevo has incorporated Synaptics‘ SecurePad technology into its newest gamer-focused devices. Rolling out under the brands Aftershock, Azom Systems, CJscope, Monster, and Sager, the notebooks feature Synaptics’ Natural ID fingerprint sensors.
The sensors are embedded in the notebooks’ touchpads, allowing for easy, virtually passive fingerprint biometric authentication via the company’s SecurePad system. It’s an innovative design concept that hasn’t yet been implemented even by major companies like Microsoft, whose Surface Pro 4 Type Cover was among the first keypads to leverage fingerprint biometrics, but did so via a discrete scanner separate from the touchpad.
In a statement announcing the integrations, Synaptics VP Godfrey Cheng asserted that the touchpad embedments “allows for a clean industrial design” while also providing users with a password alternative. And as biometric authentication becomes increasingly popular via high-profile mobile devices and major operating systems, this kind of hardware should likewise see rising market appeal.
