Optical fingerprint recognition technology provider SecuGen has released the SecuGen WebAPI beta software. The WebAPI enables developers to add fingerprint capture, enrollment, and matching to web applications, and SecuGen will be demonstrating the software at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

According to a statement from the company, the SecuGen WebAPI works with most modern web browsers, supports JavaScript and RESTFUL, and doesn’t require any Java run-times. The API currently supports SecuGen’s Hamster Pro 20, Hamster IV, and Hamster Plus fingerprint readers.

Earlier this year, SecuGen demonstrated the embedded liveness detection technology on the Hamster Pro 20 fingerprint reader, which comes courtesy of Precise Biometrics. Now that such enhanced biometric matching can be used though web browsers, thanks to the WebAPI, SecuGen’s fingerprint offerings are made even more enticing.

If you have one of the supported SecuGen fingerprint readers, the software can be tried via the company’s website in an online demo, and the company will send the full API to those who request it via email. For those attending CES from January 9 – 12, SecuGen WebAPI will be showcased in booth #21767 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
