NEXT Biometrics has announced a new fingerprint sensor module featuring an embedded processor, calling it the first of its kind.
It’s called the NB-1411-S, and the company says it offers a wide range of potential applications in mass market products, from door locks to remote controls. Commenting on the new offering in a press release, NEXT CEO Tore Etholm-Idsøe proclaimed, “For the first time, the market is offered a full size, high quality fingerprint sensor solution combined with embedded processing, and all done at a low cost.”
Among the many potential applications for this device is in smart cards, an area in which NEXT Biometrics has been placing a growing focus. With other biometrics companies looking to the growing smart card market as well, NEXT has an opportunity to establish a stronger foothold with the new NB-1411-S.
The company is showing off the new solution at this week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
