Voting is now open for the 2017 Efma-Accenture Distribution & Marketing Innovation Awards, and a groundbreaking behavioral biometrics solution is among the finalists.
Unveiled last autumn, the Secured Touch solution is designed to replace passwords with passive, behavior-based authentication on the mobile app of Leumi Card, an Israeli credit card company affiliated with Leumi Bank. The system monitors a range of factors including how much pressure a user exerts when interacting with a device’s touchscreen, the size of the user’s main finger, and so on; and Leumi Card says the system is so effective at passive, continuous authentication that it can effectively act as a password replacement.
Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects team had already announced its interest in this sort of passive authentication technology when Secured Touch was announced last year, and since then excitement in this area has grown as US military authorities have taken an active interest in behavioral biometrics for authentication.
Leumi Card’s solution could soon see a higher profile depending on how it does in the 5th Efma–Accenture Distribution & Marketing Innovation Awards, which are organized by the Accenture business consultancy and a decades-old nonprofit banking and insurance industry alliance. The organizers say that this year’s awards saw over 450 submissions from 183 financial services organizations around the world, of which only 48 nominees have been selected for the finals.
