A prominent online auction website is adopting biometric authentication for its members. OnlineAuction.com (OLA) has contracted ImageWare Systems to provide the technology, which will be used to authenticate the identities of the company’s 200,000 online auction members.
The technology will come in the form of ImageWare’s GoVerifyID software, a platform that has proven popular, with integrations into CA Technologies’ identity management applications as well as Fujitsu’s Retail Solution Marketplace platform. It’s going to be contracted to OLA in the form of Software-as-a-Service, and ImageWare expects it to generate $3.6 million in revenues over the course of its first year in operation.
In a press release, OLA president Chris Fain explained that the integration of GoVerifyID is expected to be a boon both to security and the customer experience. “This technology will ease the log in and use process,” he said, “as well as provide a quick, safe and efficient alternative to passwords.”
ImageWare CEO Jim Miller, meanwhile, emphasized the prominence of both companies in their respective fields, suggesting they are a fitting match. “GoVerifyID is the premier mobile biometric authentication product in the biometric industry, and we are pleased to partner with an equally premier provider of online auction services,” he said.
