NEXT Biometrics is welcoming a new addition to its executive team. The company has announced that Campbell Kan, ACER’s former President of PC Global Operations, has signed on as NEXT’s Vice President of Operations and Asia Sales.
As his new title indicates, Mr. Kan’s role will be twofold. The first part involves general operations management; in a statement, NEXT CEO Tore Etholm-Idsøe pointed out that in his former role with ACER, Kan oversaw logistics, procurement, quality assurance, and other product issues on a global scale, and he’ll now “plan, build and manage growth of the same functions within NEXT Biometrics Group.” The other aspect of his role will be to manage sales to the Asia-Pacific market, leveraging his contacts and reputation in the mobile device area. He will also personally handle the relevant tier-1 accounts.
It’s a smart appointment on NEXT’s part. The company has been enjoying what it calls ‘the Apple effect‘, selling fingerprint sensors to mobile device makers looking to emulate the TouchID fingerprint-scanning system pioneered by Apple with its iPhones. Some of these sales are already going to organizations in the Asia-Pacific market, but there’s clearly room for growth as more smartphone makers jump on the bandwagon in anticipation of the coming mPayment boom, which should see demand for mobile biometric authentication technologies increase further still. With his high-level experience in the region’s consumer electronics market, Mr. Kan should be instrumental in helping to find further opportunities for NEXT Biometrics.
