Fingerprint Cards Board Member Resigns Amid Industry Shift

A member of Fingerprint Cards Board of Directors has resigned.

Fingerprint Cards Board Member Resigns Amid Industry ShiftIn a statement announcing Michael Hallén’s departure from the board, FPC explained that his decision to step down is “due to an increasing heavy workload and changed working conditions where the operational duties have intensified.” The company added that Hallén also serves as CEO of Vizrt Group AS, and as Paxport AB’s Chairman of the Board.

FPC also stated that its Board “remains in full decision power despite Michael Hallén leaving,” and that its Nomination Committee has not yet drafted a recommendation concerning the Board members for FPC’s 2018 AGM.

Hallén’s exit arrives at an eventful time for the company. Apple’s new Face ID facial recognition system on the iPhone X appears to have prompted a shift in the mobile industry toward that biometric modality, which has led to an atmosphere of caution in the fingerprint sensor market. At the same time, FPC has taken numerous proactive steps to adapt to market changes, including an expansion into smart cards, the adoption of iris recognition technology for multimodality, and its recent announcement of in-display fingerprint sensor technology.

Commenting on Hallén’s departure, Chairman of the Board Jan Wäreby said the Board “has highly appreciated Michael Hallén’s valuable contribution during his time at Fingerprint Cards.”
