Biometric solutions provider Corvus Integration has launched a new multimodal mobile device for in-the-field identification. Called Unity, it features facial recognition, dual iris scanning, and dual fingerprint scanning for both live and latent prints.
It’s a cloud-based system powered by Corvus’ Raven identity management software and featuring a dual core 1.8 GHz Atom Processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 4G HSPA network compatibility. It’s also light at 2.5 pounds, and Corvus says it features a rugged design reflecting its initial development as a product for the US military. The system also features PassCheck For Unity, software developed by partner CardLogix for credential validation, which can be combined with a Unity Passport Scanner/Reader for in-the-field passport authentication.
The technological sophistication and durability of the device reflects Corvus’ experience in working on products for military clients: Earlier this fall, for example, the company won a contract to provide a US Naval Hospital with a biometric enrolment system. But the veteran-owned company is also increasingly looking to the commercial market, as in the case of its FaceCube camera system, showcased in collaboration with IBM at this year’s Global Identity Summit. With its advanced technology and versatility, Unity may prove appealing to both markets.
