With the help of Diebold Nixdorf, Saudi Arabia’s Al Rajhi Bank has introduced a self-service terminal that uses biometric technology to authenticate the individuals.
The kiosks’ authentication process entails a simple fingerprint scan; once complete, individuals can have new debit cards printed, as well as check books, statements, and remittances. They can even get started opening a new account.
In a statement announcing the terminals, Diebold Nixdorf Middle East Managing Director Habib Hanna explained that in the region, “software-driven services such as digital onboarding and biometric authentication are readily being adopted.” Indeed, government authorities in the country have adopted biometric identification for border screening, and have established a fingerprint-based biometric registration program for mobile subscribers.
For Al Rajhi Bank, the introduction of these biometric self-service terminals is the continuation of a self-service effort launched in 2015, when the bank worked with Diebold to expand its network of ATMs. Now, it could become a case study for Diebold Nixdorf as the company continues to explore biometric ATM technologies.
